They forecast 17 named storms, eight hurricanes, and four major hurricanes, the latter being Category 3 or higher, meaning winds of 115 miles per hour or more.

In an average season, which extends from June to November, about 14 named storms, seven hurricanes, and three major hurricanes typically form.

Last year, 11 storms made landfall in the United States, with tropical storms Arthur and Bertha making an early appearance in May.

Dr. Phil Klotzbach, leading the group of meteorologists at the University of Colorado, stated that factors such as Atlantic water temperatures and phenomena known as El Niño or La Niña can influence the formation of these storms.

According to Klotzbach, the current Atlantic water temperatures correspond to levels of an active season.

Those who live in Florida or coastal areas of the United States know the impact that hurricanes can have on their lives. Storms are accompanied by torrential rains that cause major flooding.

The best way to protect a property in Florida is to have flood insurance, especially considering that a standard homeowner’s policy does not cover water damage caused by flooding.
